Do you satisfied with your new blog?
You may have already built your new blogs on Blogger.com, furthermore, you may have also applied for Google AdSense and starting your online business.
This is only the assignment for completing lesson 1. We will go a step forward for building a better blog by using WordPress, which is the best blogging platform or CMS application at the moment.
The advantages of building blogs with WordPress:
- You’ll have more control over the look and feel of your blog, unlike blogger.com, there are only limited template for you to choose. For WordPress, there are numerous templates (themes) existing online, and they are free for download.
- The features of your blog can be unlimited as long as you install appropriate plugin on to your WordPress blog engine.
- You can easily backup your site’s via database tools MySQL. That means if you move your blog to another server, you can just restore the database to the new server.
Requirements of WordPress:
- You need to find a web-hosting for your blog
- There are some free hosting service online, but free stuff usually have limitations, you may give it a try at http://funxd.com
- Of course if you can use a paid web hosting for better service and functionality, but I suggest you should try with the free hosting first and see if you feel comfortable with the WordPress CMS system.
- You need to have a FTP software for uploading files to your server
- I’m using FileZilla, which is an open-source freeware, you have many choices if you spend some time to search on the internet, the web-hosting company’s control panel also have the function for uploading your files, but I found it easier for me to use FTP client software from my PC desktop.
Actually, this blog is also created with WordPress, and I’m using a paid web-hosting. I will focus on the usage of the WordPress on the coming topics.
